WCG Bayawan City SPED Olympics 2015
Project Launch:
During National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, Bayawan City East Central School in the Philippines will hold a two-day special education (SPED) Olympics in order to raise awareness about disabilities. 150 visually impaired, hearing impaired, and intellectually disabled students from around Bayawan City will participate in goal ball and bocce ball, two sports that are easily accessible for persons with disabilities. This event will provide the students an opportunity to actively play in a competitive environment, while helping raise awareness about persons with disabilities in the Philippines.
Project Upate
The two-day SPED Olympics was a huge success. Close to 200 students participated in bocce ball and goal ball tournaments and were acknowledged for their enthusiasm and participation in the closing award ceremony. The community was very supportive as fellow parents, teachers, students and community members cheered from the sidelines. The tournament sparked a lot of positive attention and encouragement, and Bayawan City is already looking forward to the 2016 SPED Olympics.
