Building an Eco-Friendly Community: Construction of 12 Eco-Latrines in Las Galeras, Samana
Project Launch:
With World Connect's support, the community development association of Las Galeras, Samana will embark upon a latrine building pilot project impacting twelve female-headed, single parent households. There are approximately 4,500 people living in Las Galeras and more than 30% of homes do not have appropriate latrines or bathroom facilities. With the increasing threat of cholera in this region, it's vitally important that the community addresses sanitation and community health. This project will position the community development association and its two female community health workers as leaders in constructing sanitary latrines and expanding access to sanitation education.
