Help Educate
Project Launch: 10-1-17
Since 2004, Help Educate has been sponsoring scholarships for deserving Nicaraguan youth. Founded by returned Peace Corps Volunteers, Help Educate is run by a team of American volunteers located in six U.S. states. Local leaders in Nicaragua identify applicants, coordinate student selection committees, and run leadership workshops that empower recipients with a vision for change in their communities. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization has sponsored 62 students from 6 different communities in 16 different fields of study since the organization’s inception.
This project will raise awareness at five U.S. schools about the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The primary focus of our engagement will be to teach students about the importance of global citizenship by delivering presentations about Nicaragua and by explaining how Help Educate’s efforts to provide university-level scholarships for rural Nicaraguan students are helping them achieve their dreams and potential as future community leaders. Students will subsequently get the opportunity to fundraise for the cause and to meet a scholarship recipient via video.
