Sustainable Farming in Limbe
Project Launch: 12-21-18
This project seeks to train, organize, and provide farming equipment and training to a group of 30 vulnerable and internally displaced women who have struggled in light of the Anglophone/Francophone Crisis in Southwestern Cameroon. After this training, participants will be positioned to start their own sustainable vegetable and plantain farms. These farms will help them produce agricultural products, for food to care for children and families, and income from produce sales local markets. This will enable the participants to begin peaceful lives anew.
Project Update:
With a World Connect grant of $2,240, 30 women and 20 volunteers were trained on sustainable farming practices, bookkeeping, effective local marketing, and sales techniques. The participants formed two working groups and procured the equipment necessary to launch their agricultural activities including 10 spraying cans, 3000 plantain suckers, 10 hoes, 10 machetes and vegetable seedlings. The Chief of the community gave each of the groups a plot of fertile land to cultivate. They have since prepared the land and planted the plantain suckers. They are positioning themselves to harvest the plantains, sell them at market, and produce a profit to improve their families’ financial stability.
