Books! Books! Books! Converting Storage Room to School Library
Project Launch: 4-23-17
G.S. Muhura Boarding School is located in rural Muhura, Rwanda. Home to 500 students, the school's library facilities are woefully underdeveloped and obselete, with literacy material that is outdated or lacking in breadth for the advancing student population. The goal of this project is to create a fully functioning library at the school which will provide books and text resources for firstly, students and staff-- and once firmly established -- will be opened for the large Muhura community. The fully functioning library will include books to promote reading of every subject, including novels, books, and stories for enjoyment.
Project Update: 9-22-17
Library construction is complete. Furniture has been purchased, including tables, chairs, shelves, benches. All books have been acquired and delivered to the library location. The facility's official opening date is October 21, 2017, but the community may launch an earlier sneak peek opening once books are shelved and the organization system is set up in the library.
Final Report: 11-9-17
The library has opened! Students enjoy the new facility and have made use of the materials. All the books were labeled and organized by subject matter.
