The construction of sanitary facilities and renovation of the school classroom block at Mwale Primary School in Rumphi district is progressing really well. Within two months, using 60% of the grant, they constructed eight sanitary facilities with doors and frames already fitted. They are remaining with roofing and painting. They have also managed to renovate the school block up to ring beam level with roofing, flooring and painting remaining to complete the structure. Once completed, the renovated furnished classroom block and the new sanitary facilities will provide a conducive learning environment to over 400 pupils per year. The project will reduce class absenteeism as both boys and girls will be motivated to attend classes, thereby improving their academic performance.

Final Report: 11-29-24

With support from World Connect, the community of Mwale, in Rumphi district, embarked on a project to renovate a classroom block, build toilets and procure classroom desks. The project was completed in two phases with the first phase renovating the classroom block while the second phase focused on building toilet blocks and procuring fifty (50) classroom desks.

The project's impact is evident as 400 pupils benefited from the project with 120 pupils directly benefiting from the renovated classroom block and new desks. The toilet-pupil ratio decreased by 60%, and 100% access to sanitation facilities was achieved. The provision of classroom desks has reduced absenteeism and improved academic performance, particularly among adolescent girls. According to the head teacher, Selah Nyirenda, "The project has improved the appearance of the school, provided a conducive learning environment, and increased access to sanitation facilities. Pupils are now more enthusiastic about attending school, and academic performance has improved."
