In 2024, Chiundira Village Development Committee, in collaboration with Mudzi Connect, embarked on the construction of an Under Five Clinic, under the leadership of community leader Steria Kamzingeni. The clinic is designed to serve 820 children under five years of age (429 boys and 391 girls) and their mothers. Once completed, the facility will help reduce child mortality, protect children from preventable diseases, and decrease the long distances mothers currently travel to access health services. It will also provide essential health education and vaccination services for children and their mothers. The project is now in its final phase, which will focus on flooring, painting, fitting of immovable chairs, and construction of toilets to ensure the clinic is fully functional and ready for use.
The construction of the Kamankodola Under-Five Clinic has advanced to a stage where the facility is already serving the community, even as final works continue. With support from Mudzi Connect, Chiundira Village Development Committee has completed key structural activities, including roofing, plastering, flooring, and painting of the main building. The clinic is now hosting regular under-five health, family planning, and cancer screening services in collaboration with Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM). Access to services has improved significantly, with women no longer traveling long distances and monthly child health visits increasing from 196 to 286. Final works, including window installation and finishing of the back section, are underway to ensure full functionality of the underfive clinic.
