About this Project

Project Launch: 7-18-22

Pamoza Social Care Group will construct a boy’s urinal at Embombeni Primary School in Traditional Authority Mthwalo, Mzimba. The availability of a purpose-built urinal block will help improve sanitation at the school  with only five (5) latrines against 254 boys.  The results are high incidents of open urination which contaminates the school environment and puts the school community at the risk of diseases.

Final Report: 4-12-23

Pamoza Social Care Group, a community-based organization in Embombeni, Mzimba, used a $1,000 grant to construct a boys’ urinal at Embombeni Primary School to address the overcrowding of toilets for 262 boys. Before the project, the school had only five toilets, leading many boys to use bushes when facilities were full, which increased diarrhea cases and poor hygiene. The new urinal has resulted in a 70% reduction in open defecation, improved hygiene practices, and decreased congestion in the toilets. Additionally, it has enhanced the school's appearance and reduced bad smells and air pollution caused by urinating outside. Shadreck Maunde, a student, expressed that the new sanitation facility has made him and his peers more comfortable.
