Construction of Girls hostel at Ehlekweni School.

About this Project

The Ehlekweni community, under Sub-Traditional Authority Yohani Jere in Senior Chief Mtwalo Jere's area of Mzimba district, Malawi, has embarked on a project to construct a girls' hostel. The hostel aims to provide safe accommodation for 58 Standard 8 girls sitting for their Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE from the three primary schools of  Emazinyeni, Ehlekweni, and Emsizini. Previously, students had to fend for their own accommodation, exposing girls to risks such as unplanned pregnancies, school dropout, and early marriages. To address this challenge, the organization mobilized the community to contribute over MK14,000,000, which was matched by a MK10,000,000 grant from Mudzi Connect. These funds will support the construction of the girls' hostel, providing a safe and secure environment for the students to focus on their studies
