CONSTRUCTION OF MBANGA SCHOOL TEACHERS’ HOUSE

Year: 2021
Country: Malawi
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $4,147.25

Project Launch: 9-9-21

Mbanga Community together with Village X Organization will facilitate the construction of a teacher’s house at Mbanga Primary School in Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi District, Southern Region of Malawi. The school has twelve teachers with only three houses available for occupation which forces most teachers to live far from the school premises hence affecting lesson preparation and delivery  to learners. The new house will increase the number of teachers accommodated at the school thereby improving enforcement of school rules and timely delivery of lessons and commencement of classes.

Project Update: 11-12-21

Seven weeks after funding, the construction of a teacher’s house at Mbanga Primary School is progressing well. The project, which is now at ring beam level, has used $2,487.50 which translates to 60% of the total grant funds awarded. The next phase of the project will involve roofing, flooring, plastering, skating, painting and installation of doors and windows. On their part, community members have provided land, sand and bricks which have cemented their ownership of the project. The project’s goal of ensuring that teachers have conducive living conditions is set to be achieved by December 2021 as the project is within its estimated project timeline.

Final Report: 2-6-23

Mbanga Village X committee partnered with community members of Mbanga village to construct a teacher’s house at Mbanga Primary School in Traditional Authority Nankumba, Mangochi district. The completion of the three-bedrooms house has increased the number of teachers staying on the campus from three to four. Additionally, this project has improved lesson delivery as the teacher is now able to start lessons on time and even conduct extra lessons after the knock off hours as he is within the school campus. This is expected to increase the students’ performance in the long run as they will have more time to consult the teacher and seek help with their studies.
