About this Project

Project Launch: 10-14-24

Nakondwa Primary School, located in the area of Group Village Headman Chimombo, under Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa, is facing a critical shortage of teachers' housing. Currently, the school has six teachers responsible for grades 1 through 8, but only four houses are available—two of acceptable standard and two substandard. This lack of housing often results in teachers commuting long distances, leading to inconsistent attendance and classes being left unattended. To address this issue, the project will construct a new three-bedroom teacher’s house. This initiative aims to improve teacher retention, reduce absenteeism, and ultimately enhance the quality of education for the students of Nakondwa Primary School.

Project Update: 1-16-25

Two months into project implementation, the construction of a teacher’s house at Nakondwa Primary School has generated immense optimism and enthusiasm among the teachers and the local community. This residence, which will be the seventh staff house at the school, has progressed to the roofing stage, with flooring, skirting, plastering, and painting remaining to complete the structure. Upon completion, the house will offer a safe and convenient home for a teacher who currently commutes over 5 kilometers daily to reach the school. Reducing this commuting burden is expected to greatly enhance the teacher’s efficiency and effectiveness in lesson delivery, ultimately benefiting the students and improving the quality of education at the school.

Final Report: 9-17-25

Mudzi Connect in partnership  with Chimombo Village Development Committee and the School’s Management Committee has constructed the fifth teachers’ house at Nakondwa Primary school where eight teachers serve. By enabling another teacher to reside on campus, the initiative significantly eases the strain of daily travel up to 5km and ensures consistent delivery of lessons. Although completion of the kitchen and installation of a fascia (fisher) board is still pending due to funding constraints, the house is already operational enhancing teaching efficiency and creating a more stable learning environment to 590 students (313 boys and 277 girls).
