Construction of Nakondwa primary schoolteachers' house

Chimombo Village Development Committee will use World Connect Grant to construct a teacher's house at Nakondwa primary school. The school has 12 teachers with only 4 houses only, the rest of the teachers reside outside the school compound and travel long distances to work affecting classes and student pass rate as they in most cases report to work late or absent during the rainy season. The project will contribute to addressing the issue of low performance rate among the 598 learners at this school.

Project Update: 5-31-24

The construction of a teachers house at Nakondwa primary school, led by Chimombo Village development Committee, is currently at window level. Once completed, the project will increase the number of resident teachers  from 4 to 5   contributing to improved performance  among the 598 learners at the school.  The project will also  increase the number of students being selected to various secondary schools  and minimize cases of theft which are rampant at the school  due to high levels of illiterate  youths.

In partnership with community members,  Chimombo Village Development Committee has completed constructing a teachers house at Nakondwa Primary School. Additionally, the committee used the same $8,185.73 co-investment grant from World Connect to construct a toilet and kitchen completing requirements for occupation  of the fifth teacher now residing in the school campus. Demonstrating efficient use of resources, surplus timber from the project was used to repair roofs on two other teachers’ houses, amplifying its overall impact The project has improved educational access and teacher availability for Class 5 and Class 6 students at Nakondwa School,  increased consistent engagement with students throughout the day, minimized the occurrence of unattended classes and provided local employment, enabling construction workers to earn income to support their families
