Construction of Toilets and a Girls’ changing Room at Luwangwa Primary School inTA Juma, Mulanje District

About this Project

Namulenga Development Foundation (NADEF) will use a $7,956.93 co-investment from Mudzi Connect to construct gender-responsive sanitation facilities at Luwangwa Primary School in TA Juma, Mulanje District. Following the destruction of the school's toilets by Cyclone Freddy in 2023, learners and teachers have faced serious health, safety, and educational challenges, with girls particularly affected during menstruation. The project will build a four-room toilet block for boys, a four-room toilet block for girls with an attached changing room, and a separate two-room toilet block for teachers providing safe and dignified sanitation facilities for 1,323 learners and 13 teachers.  By improving hygiene and safety, the initiative aims to increase school attendance and retention, particularly among girls, and create a healthier overall learning environment.
