Construction of Under-Five Shelter

The Foundation for Sustainable Community Development (FSCD) in partnership with Chiendausiku Health Center will construct an under-five shelter with the aim of improving access to health services for women and children in Chiendausiku. The services provided will include health education, immunization, growth monitoring, prenatal and postnatal care, disease surveillance, nutrition, water and sanitation, contraceptive distribution, and treatment of minor diseases among under-five children. Once completed, the structure will support 16,140 people with an average monthly attendance of 2,685. The community has over 2,639 under-five children, 241 lactating mothers, and about 208 pregnant women, who will all be direct beneficiaries of this shelter.

With a $6,645.14 grant from World Connect, Foundation for Sustainable Community Development (FSCD) together with community members from Chiendausiku have completed constructing all the super structure of their planned under-five shelter at Chiendausiku Clinic center, Balaka. Once completed, the shelter is expected to improve access to health education, immunization, growth monitoring, prenatal and postnatal care, disease surveillance, nutrition, family planning and treatment of minor diseases among under-five children, lactating mothers and pregnant women of Chiendausiku community. 2,639 under-five children, 241 lactating mothers and 208 pregnant women and the general community especially women are expected to directly benefit from this project. The community has leveraged 70 bags of cement from their Member of Parliament costing $855.
