Estrellitas de Oro Art Camp reached a huge audience in Santa Ana, Dominican Republic, where kids learned about the importance of recycling in their community and crafted project to bring home. The interactions with other kids in the community were also extremely effective because the kids were given a chance to meet new people their own age that they could relate to and with whom they could spend a fun summer. With the help of a grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program, the Estrellitas de Oro Art Camp created a productive and fun environment for youth during the summer, a time without many constructive activities for kids. The camp ran for two months at no cost to the kids and was targeted at kids ages 5 to 12 years old. The camp created an environment where kids were comfortable to let their creative juices flow and make and learn things they can be proud of. Art camp, using different educational methods than those used in school, got kids to think like kids, to imagine a world outside of their rural town and to help inspire them about what they can do in and out of their community.
