The Karama Food Stock and Grain Milling Project aims to improve food access and affordability while creating economic opportunities for residents of the Karama IDP Model Village. Led by the Dushyigikirane Block A group, this initiative addresses challenges like high food prices and the lack of local milling facilities by establishing a food stock and grinding mill business. With a grant of $5,120.44 from World Connect and a coinvestment of $1,814.23 from the community, the project will fund equipment, including a grain mill and storage facilities, as well as workspace rental. By purchasing maize, cassava, beans, and other foods directly from farmers and selling food and milling services at reduced prices, the project seeks to enhance food security, generate income, and create jobs. Sustainability will be achieved through reinvested profits, efficient resource management, and strong community participation.
