Fortalecer pa' Crecer
Project Launch:
In Batey Barrio Filiu, where most families are Haitian or descendants of Haitian immigrants, government services are almost non-existent. There is one primary school but many kids never advance past the fourth grade. To address the low education levels, a group of parents formed Amor, Union, Fe y Esperanza (Love, Union, Faith and Hope), a community-based education organization. They are providing mathematics and literacy education to kids who have dropped out of formal schooling. With World Connect's support, they will legally register the organization and work with the school district to ensure lessons and learning objectives are developed in accordance with national standards.
