This project partners with women leaders from the Sapara Nationality in Ecuador to address women's wellbeing and health across 24 isolated communities, home to approximately 500 people. Accessible only by air, these small communities rely on subsistence agriculture, hunting, fishing, crafts, and community tourism. The initiative aims to diagnose and mitigate challenges to women's wellbeing through a participatory approach, strengthening community organization and women’s leadership. Additionally, 10–15 women leaders from various communities will undergo a five-day intensive training on feminist popular education, political leadership, rights advocacy, safety planning, and collective care, rooted in Sapara cultural knowledge. Ongoing mentorship by two Itiumu professionals will support data collection, case handling, and emotional and organizational growth, empowering these women to replicate learnings in their communities. The budget will cover air transport, facilitator fees, and workshop logistics (accommodation, food, materials) to ensure safe, culturally appropriate conditions. This project lays the foundation for a strong, informed women’s network, fostering collective transformation in the Sapara territory.
