Dental Preventive Care in Haiti
Project Launch: 12-14-17
A system of comprehensive dental care does not exist for most Haitians. Dental services are a luxury out of reach for all but the wealthiest. By the time patients come to the attention of a dentist, it is usually too late to save the tooth or they lack enough money to afford the needed procedures to keep it. Dentistes Sans Frontieres - Haiti was born out of a need to provide preventive dental care in undeserved Haitian communities, especially for kids and new mothers. In this way, dental hygiene and overall health can increase for Haitians of all backgrounds, regardless of their ability to pay.
Project Update: 5-16-18
Dentistes Sans Frontieres Haiti was able to start the preventive care program for children and women that need special dental care. On April 9, 2018, the group started conducting education sessions at the Health Center of Caravelle and also at local schools. 3 education sessions in the area of the health center have already reached 527 people.
