Repair Café El Barrio is currently the only Repair Café in New York City. Based in East Harlem, the organization has hosted monthly community repair events for the past three years, where volunteers help neighbors fix broken items, keeping them out of landfills while fostering connections across generations and cultures. "Growing Repair Café El Barrio: Time, Tools & Togetherness" will expand the organization's capacity, deepen community engagement, and secure resources for long-term sustainability. As new Repair Cafés open in Brooklyn and the West Side, trained volunteers from Repair Café El Barrio will help model successful practices citywide.
