Irrigation during Malawi's lengthy dry season (May to November) is critical to farming and food security. ROOT-RISE, a local agribusiness, has developed an innovative solution for farmers, called the DONTHO Bucket System. This low-cost, gravity-fed irrigation kit can water up to 100 plant stations without fuel or electricity. With your $4,900 investment, ROOT-RISE will co-invest $1,900 to make the DONTHO Bucket System available to 300 smallholder farmers at a reduced cost. The 300 new irrigation systems are expected to increase dry-season crop production, reduce the time and labor of manual watering, and improve farmer incomes.
