Isuku Soap making to combat neglected tropical diseases, improve education and increase household incomes

This project seeks a $4,616 investment from world connect to match a $5,180 community contribution to expand a soap making initiative aimed at training 40 teachers and community members to make bar washing soap to combat neglected tropical diseases among 1000+ learners at Nyabirehe primary school and Rwinzovu secondary school both in Musanze District, Northern province of Rwanda. This soap making initiative will improve the health of these children through regular hand and body washing, hence improving their education outcomes since they will nolonger miss school days due hygiene-related illnesses. A community soap production unit will also be established in the community center providing jobs to 33 vulnerable community members, majority female, who will produce soap to sell to the community. These community members will earn income from the sale of soap and free soap will be provided to other vulnerable households during community outreach and education on health and hygiene. Funds will be used to acquire the necessary equipment, safety gear and chemicals for soap making.
