JumpStart 27 de Abril
Project Launch:
Given the importance of the tourism industry in Costa Rica, English language skills are valuable tools in helping Costa Ricans obtain optimal employment. In addition, enhanced English language skills taught to high school students in Costa Rica improves high school graduation rates and pursuit of higher education. This project will provide 40 students from the rural village of 27 de Abril with the opportunity to participate in a month-long English language immersion camp. 27 de Abril is a small, seaside community located on the western coast of Costa Rica, where the majority of folks make their living in the tourism, fishing, and agriculture industries. The camp will target rising 7th grade students, which is the start of high school in Costa Rica, giving them a strong head start in preparing for their English language high school exit-exam using the proven JumpStart curriculum.
