JumpStart English Camp, La Cruz

Year: 2012
Country: Costa Rica
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $3,690.23

Project Launch:

In Costa Rica, 45% of public primary schools currently lack an English teacher, despite a requirement that secondary school students in Costa Rica pass an English proficiency exam to graduate. World Connect supported a Jumpstart camp that took place in La Cruz, Costa Rica. The project provided a group of rising 7th graders with the opportunity to participate in a month-long intensive English language camp led by Peace Corps Volunteers and World Connect project partner the Costa Rica Multilingüe Foundation. Participating students emerged with an improved English language vocabulary, greater confidence, new friends and a more energized community. World Connect was proud to participate in this project that was being implemented in a number of locations around Costa Rica.

Testimonials

"JumpStart will be a moment in your Peace Corps service when you look back at the work, the stress, and the preparation and finally realize that it was absolutely worth it and so much more; there might be tears on graduation day as you will realize JumpStart has changed the lives of 20 impressionable students and you loved every minute of it!" - Taylor Westfall, Peace Corps Volunteer
