LearnTour Centre
Project Launch: 10-19-21
The Learn Tour Centre project is taking place in Pakoto. Pakoto is an underserved community in Ifo Town of Ogun State, Nigeria with a population of about 10,000. The community has only one government owned primary and secondary school and the schools lack adequate resources, such as electricity, water, computers, a library, and a laboratory. Because polygamy is a common practice within the community, 80 % of the women are single mothers, trying to provide basic needs and education for their children. Majority of the women in Pakoto are hawkers, petty traders, or hairstylists, while many of the men are farmers or brick layers. The Learn Tour Centre project aims to provide a multipurpose center including a library, vocational training room and a talent Hall, in which they will empower children and women to learn, showcase their talent, and develop new skills. More specifically, this project will create a reading culture amongst the children and give them an opportunity to succeed in their academic pursuit, it will also empower the women to learn soap making, tailoring, and handcrafting skills. And lastly it will give an opportunity to children and young adults to showcase their talents and capabilities to the community and larger audiences invested in the development of the community.
