About this Project

Project Launch: 8-13-25

Mlambe Beekeeping group, an all women club will use $4,977.44 to procure 30 Langstroth bee hives and other essential honey processing and packaging equipment that will improve both the quality and quantity of honey produced. Additionally, the project will enhance the availability of honey products which are commonly sought after in Mzuzu City as one of the healthy alternatives for consumption and daily use. This group was initially established as a Village Savings and Loans group and has since evolved into a beekeeping enterprise with an aim of improving the group members’ household incomes. It is believed that this investment will speed up this process.

Project Update: 12-15-25

Mlambe Beekeeping Group, which is implementing a beekeeping project in Mzuzu by engaging women and youth in eco-friendly income-generating activities, has made significant progress in its implementation. The group has used 60% of the project funding from Mudzi Connect to acquire 30 Langstroth beehives with 13 out of the 30 beehives already colonized. In addition, they have purchased five sets of beesuits with gloves, five pairs of gumboots, two smokers, and three hive tools. The group has also used their membership contributions of K2,665,000 to construct hive stands for each beehive, erected a protective fence around the apiary, and acquired colonies. Once fully implemented, the initiative is expected to create jobs, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen climate resilience within the community.
