Pimentel on the northern coast of Peru is home to the Pre-Incan Moche, and there are only a handful of people who still speak Muchik, the native language of the Moche. A $500 grant from World Connect's Kids to Kids Program in 2011 supported local students with a series of educational workshops to increase their skills and knowledge. Topics covered in the workshops include marine biology, solid waste management, reforestation, cultural identity, local ecology, leadership, and self-esteem and students also took a field trip to a local private nature reserve in Chaparri. The group built a tree nursery, recycling center, and a garden in the secondary school using recycled water from the sinks in the bathrooms.Explore other Projects
