Mtende Homecraft is a training institution fully registered by the Government's Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) and offering carpentry, bricklaying and food production courses to students in Rumphi District. The organization will use a grant from Mudzi Connect to complete the construction of a student’s hostel, earmarked for female residents at the centre. Specifically, the hostel will aid in the enrolment from the current 100 to 300 students in the next two years, with a preferential increment among female students who will be accommodated thereby reducing high dropout rates and gender related abuses. Additionally, the project will increase the number of programs on offer to six from three with the addition of food production, plumbing and welding. Overall, the project will enable more young people to acquire vocational skills that will enable them to gain formal employment or establish businesses aimed at enhancing their economic independence.
