About this Project

Project Launch: 8-13-25

Mtenjemanga Beekeeping Cooperative will use $4,143.35 from Mudzi Connect to improve livelihoods of beekeeping communities in Mtenjemanga, Mchinji district, by increasing honey production and enhancing sustainable beekeeping practices. The group seeks to procure 60 top bar beehives, bee suits and other essential honey processing and packaging materials. Furthermore, the project will equip the 50 group members with skills and knowledge on modern beekeeping practices, honey harvesting and bee health management. This project will improve economic independence among households and enhance environmental conservation through the safeguarding of forests where the hives will be installed.

Project Update: 2-19-26

Mtenjemanga Beekeeping Cooperative has made strong progress in its beekeeping project with support from Mudzi Connect. Using 60% of the funds, the cooperative produced 60 locally made beehives at K82,000 each, all now ready for installation. Members contributed K200,000 toward the project, part of which was used as a deposit for buckets, demonstrating their strong commitment and shared ownership. Remaining activities include purchasing smokers, bee suits, and additional buckets. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance both the quantity and quality of honey, thereby increasing the cooperative’s income and strengthening its sustainability and capacity for future growth.
