Karama Urban Vegetable Farm
Project Launch: 11-25-24
The Karama Urban Vegetable Farming project aims to improve food security, generate income, and promote sustainable agriculture in the Karama IDP Model Village. Led by the Abanyamurava Cooperative, this initiative will expand the cultivation and marketing of mushrooms and vegetables like cabbage and green peppers, leveraging local resources to meet the growing demand for nutritious, affordable produce. With a grant of $4,927.01 from World Connect and a coinvestment of $5,789.05 from the community, the project will fund facilities for mushroom cultivation, including a laboratory, storage room, and kitchen for sterilization, as well as materials for planting and packaging. By utilizing eco-friendly practices and providing employment opportunities, particularly for women, the project aims to enhance the livelihoods of community members while fostering long-term sustainability through reinvested profits, training, and increased production capacity.
