Ntchisi Protected Water Project
Project Launch: 4-22-20
Through this project, the community will install one shallow well using an Afri-Dev hand pump to provide safe drinking water to 166 community members from 31 households in the Chaseta village. In addition, 75 community members from surrounding villages will also have access to the pump, bringing the total number of users to 241. The women currently travel long distances to draw water or alternatively use the same well which is unprotected leading to spread of water borne diseases. This new well will reduce women's travel time to collect water, reduce their vulnerability, and improve community health.
Final Report: 6-19-20
The community and EWS Foundation came together and installed an Afri-Dev water pump in Chaseta Village, giving 241 people access to potable water for the first time. As a sustainability measure, 10 people were trained in community based water management so that they can maintain the system long-term. This water source has reduced women's travel time and exposure to violence. The community expects to see a dramatic reduction in cases of water borne disease.
