Play it Safe Comoros
Project Launch: 1-10-17
Itsinkoudi is situated along a primary road. There is little recreation in the village and children often play in the streets. Because of its proximity to one of the only well built and maintained roads of Grand Comore (Ngazidja) there is a lot of work-related traffic passing through the village, either on its way to the capital or further north to other cities. Because of such traffic and ease of access to the capital, there is an unusually high number of car accidents that injure or kill children. Having no place to play, the younger children tend to play around the main road. This project proposes the creation of a playground near the local public school so children can play safely and develop their kinesthetic abilities.
Project Update: 4-11-17
The community has finally voted on the project. 218 representatives approved the resolution unanimously. They held an Itsinkoudi Cultural Week to help raise the remaining village cash contribution. Merci Mlaouni, with donations from the community and the office of the mayor, started building the enclosure for the primary school. Engineers have started to put together the swing set, calculator tire apparatus and the seesaw. They have completed the enclosure for the primary school.
