This project aims to repair the Nyabyiyoni and Mbogo bridges in Remera Village of Kintarure Cell, Shyira Sector in Nyabihu District of the Western provice of Rwanda which were severely damaged by landslides and soil erosion caused by heavy rains in 2020, 2022, and 2023. These bridges are vital for connecting Remera with neighboring communities such as Kanyamitana, Muhare, and Gasharu, providing access to essential services, such as markets, schools, and healthcare. Without these bridges, transportation of agricultural products, trade, and daily movement have been significantly hindered, increasing community vulnerability—especially for women and children. The project is a collaborative effort between local leaders, residents, and development partners to restore safe, functional, and durable infrastructure that will improve economic activity, mobility, and community resilience.
A $12,000 grant from World Connect Rwanda will match $5,000 raised by the community to purchase construction materials such as cement, sand and steel, hire qualified labour to support the community in constructing a durable bridge that can be used by motor transport, protect the banks of the river to prevent further landslides and soil erosion during heavy rains.
