Scaling Beekeeping for more income and conservation of local forests in Njiri Community

About this Project

In Njiri Community, under Group Village Headman Chimojimoji, Traditional Authority Nyaluwanga in Nkhata-Bay District, the Umoza Beekeeping Group will scale up its beekeeping enterprise as a sustainable source of income while promoting local forest conservation. With a $5,125.64 co-investment from Mudzi Connect, the project will support the construction and installation of 50 standard top-bar hives, provide honey harvesting and processing equipment, plant 250 fruit and bee-friendly tree seedlings, and strengthen members' skills through five practical training sessions. Building on the group's existing beekeeping activities and growing honey production, the project aims to increase household incomes, create greater economic opportunities for women, reduce pressure on local forests, and strengthen pollination and biodiversity in the community.
