Smile Plate Project
Project Launch: 4-23-20
Through this project, Self-Advocacy Initiatives for People with Disabilities (SAID) will support 50 parents of children with disabilities in launching poultry farming and agrucultural projects at their homes as a means to generate income. The $3,000 World Connect grant will provide funding for 500 chickens and 500 rabbits which the community has already built pens for. By creating an opportunity to generate income from home for parents, it is less likely that children with disabilities will be left at home unattended or neglected throughout the day. During monitoring visits to the households, staff members will teach parents how to feed children with severe disabilities and give them information about how to enroll their children in school. By supporting families with the skills to generate income and care for their childrens' unique needs, SAID aims to reduce poverty, reduce stigma, and build community support for these families.
