TOLICHI AND NALINGO BOREHOLE DRILLING PROJECT.
Project Launch: 9-14-23
Reuel Naphtali Chimosola, a CorpsAfrica Volunteer will lead the project to drill a borehole at Tolichi and Nalingo community, in Chikwawa, Southern Region of Malawi. The new water source will reduce the 4 kilometer distance women currently travel to access clean and safe water as well as end the process of fetching water from unprotected sources which exacerbates waterborne diseases like cholera, diarrhea, and dysentery.
Project Update: 10-12-23
Drilling of the borehole for Tolichi and Nalingo communities has been done, water found and a pump has been installed. A total of 312 people from 64 households will for the first time gain access to the clean and safe water within 10 minutes walking distance as opposed to 2 hours. The availability of this water is also expected to reduce water related diseases in the community while at the same reduce gender based related fights as women will not spend more hours fetching water. This project took one week to be completed as recorded as one of the fastest ever to be implemented.
Final Report:
Three Hundred and twelve (312) people representing 64 households from Tolichi and Nalingo villages have now gained access to clean and safe drinking water courtesy of Majete Community Development Organisation and CorpsAfrica volunteer Reul Chimosola who led implementation of a borehole project in the community.. Previously, women spent over two hours daily fetching unsafe water, leading to frequent cases of waterborne diseases. Now, with clean and safe water accessible in just 10 minutes, no new cases of diarrhea or dysentery have been reported eight months post-implementation. Community leader Emmanuel Tolichi praised residents’ active involvement and new by-laws ensuring the borehole’s sustainability for future generations.
