About this Project
The project addresses the urgent need to protect Indigenous Peoples in Isolation (PIA), specifically the Tagaeri-Taromenane. Led by the Waorani Nationality of Ecuador (NAWE), a tribe that remained uncontacted until 1958, this initiative engages 12 key Waorani communities in Ecuador’s Amazon that live on border territories with the uncontacted Tagaeri-Taromenane groups. This project involves participatory workshops to develop protocols and contingency plans for managing encounters or signs of PIA, emphasizing non-contact and precaution. These activities, including community workshops and leadership summits, aim to strengthen organizational capacities, raise awareness, and involve women and youth in fostering a culture of peace. The project’s impact includes enhanced community preparedness, early warning systems, and the empowerment of NAWE and its affiliates to uphold PIA rights and protection.
