Improvement of the Sustainable Infrastructure of Cerro Escondido Eco-Lodge in the Karen Mogensen Wildlife Reserve.

Year: 2016
Country: Costa Rica
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Environment
Project Investment: $500.00

Project Launch: 5-6-16

Located in San Ramon, Costa Rica, the Karen Mogensen Wildlife Reserve aims to protect biodiversity and conserve the area’s natural forests and waters, which provides water to more than 10 million inhabitants. Throughout the year, tourists are welcome to stay at the reserve’s eco friendly, solar-powered lodge, where they can hike and learn about the regions’ environmental wonders and challenges. The lodge also provides housing for scientists who utilize the reserve’s bioclimatic station to study the effects of climate change. This project will provide the eco-lodge with additional solar panels and water tanks to accommodate guests and scientists for longer periods of time, allowing the lodge to boost their eco-tourism program and continue to support important environmental research.

Progress Update: 9/1/2016

Some delays in purchasing the necessary solar panels have pushed the project timeline back. The community is working to identify another vendor so that it can go ahead with the installation.
