World Map Project Canton Palacios
Year: 2010
Country: El Salvador
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $104.15
Project Launch:
To supplement the resources teachers have to teach about geography and to give students a more global sense of the world, a $104 grant was awarded from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2010 for students in the community of Cantón Palacios to paint a world map on the wall of their school. The map now serves as a symbolic welcome to all who enter, representing open-mindedness to all of the places in the world and our collective responsibility for caring for our planet. The map was painted by a geography club from 6th-9th grades who earned the opportunity to paint the map by completing a week of interactive educational activities about the planet and its many cultures. In addition to providing an additional educational tool in teaching students about geography, the map spurs students to think beyond their own community and connects them more closely to the rest of the world.Explore other Projects
