Project Launch:

El Salvador has struggled with decreases in federal funds at the same time that the country has seen an increase in gang activity involving youth. The government’s economic cutbacks provide less opportunity for artistic development of youth. The ¨Culture House¨ is an organization that prioritizes retaining local culture and customs and increasing citizen participation. With support from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2011, the project “Creating Future Artists of Ereguayquin” was launched to develop artistic skills in young people and increase their knowledge about the history of art. Many young people in Ereguayquin, El Salvador are faced with temptations to lead a life in a gang. This project gave them an opportunity to build stronger and more supportive connections with their peers, learn a skill or enhance their skills, and have a productive way to spend their time that supported the participants in continuing to lead a healthy, clean life.
