Project Launch:

Rincón is a rural community in the Puerto Plata province. Situated on the side of a mountain, Rinconeros mostly rely on subsistence farming or sell products such as cacao and avocados for income. Many houses lack cement floors and more than 80% of houses still use a traditional cookstoves.

 

This project will provide 35 community members with improved cookstoves. They will participate in workshops on the environmental and health benefits of improved cookstoves, as well as the proper maintenance and care of the stoves. The improved cookstoves will improve the pulmonary health of the community members by removing the thick indoor smoke created by traditional cooking methods, as well as reduce the amount of wood harvested in the area for domestic cooking needs.
