Integrating Rural Farmers into Regional Economy
Project Launch: 6-14-19
The Fushe-Arrez Winery is a grassroots organization launching a farmer-owned and women-led winery in Kryezi, Albania. This project aims to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the area and create income-generating opportunities for women farmers. The winery will incorporate 20 women-led family farms from the Kryezi village. With World Connect's support, his project will improve producer capacity through a series of technical trainings conducted by a team of wine experts, broaden distribution channels in both the Fushe-Arrez community and across the region, and purchase the machinery required to process, filter, store, and bottle wine and raki. The small family farms are excited about leveraging their wine and raki surpluses and generating a livable income for their families.
