Year: 2011
Country: Costa Rica
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $263.76
Project Launch:
The poor and isolated rural community of Quebrada Grande, Costa Rica does not have many activities or events for its children. The only public recreational facilities available in the area are the local soccer field and a small play area behind the school. There are no kids sports leagues, clubs, or groups nearby. In April 2010, the Quebrada Grande Community Association and the local Peace Corps Volunteer sponsored a kids sports camp that became an instant success, though many kids couldn’t participate because of the $4 per child participation cost. With the 2nd annual kids soccer day camp planned, the Community Association reached out to World Connect for support and this 2nd session wound up being bigger, better, and more accessible to all community youth. Ten male youth volunteered for their second year in teaching soccer techniques to the children and women in the village volunteered again to be cooks and serve a healthy lunch and snack during the camp. The kids of the community were ecstatic to participate in the soccer day camp for a second year.Explore other Projects
