Project Launch:

The town of Marungu is a truck-stop on a main highway in Kenya that cuts through the country. This town accumulates a tremendous amount of non-biodegradable waste that is spread by the wind and caught in weeds and bushes. Not only does the waste affect the aesthetics of the country, but also has implications for wildlife that graze in the area and for plants growing there. A grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program supported trash clean-up days for kids in schools to gather and dispose of waste, and arts and crafts-making from recycled materials. An educational session was also held on the differences between biodegradable waste and non-biodegradable waste. Not only did this project clean-up the environment, it expanded children's knowledge about the environment and increased their creativity in using trash to make art.
