The primary goal of this project is to address food insecurity in Bondo town and Nyakasumbi village. Bondo town currently has a 46% stunting rate for children. Most children in the town do not eat 3 meals a day and eat animal protein less than once a week. Nyakasumbi village is a poverty-stricken village, with most members struggling to get enough calories to survive. Youth cannot perform to their fullest potential without adequate food and nutrition.

The Ministry of Agriculture in Kenya has placed an emphasis on promoting rabbit meat as a source of lean, highly nutritious protein that can be kept in confined spaces, which is important in an area where most families own less than an acre of land. This project is designed to support a local, community-based organization to launch a new project focused on youth-led rabbit farming. The project’s objectives are to produce a regular source of animal protein to combat food insecurity for impoverished families in the area, to produce enough rabbits to sell in local markets to make the project sustainable, and to position 28 young people as leaders of a community demonstration project, so they can share their knowledge with the greater community.
