BTY Better School Project
Project Launch: 1-13-23
Nearly 87% of children in Sub-Saharan Africa have poor learning outcomes, as they cannot read simple text by age 10 (UNICEF, 2008). The causes of poor learning outcomes in schools in Nigeria are the lack of educational resources and availability of good school classrooms and facilities necessary for learning are not available, thus, affecting students' academic outcomes. This project aims to address this challange by rennovating Anser-Ud-Deen Primary School, Sabo, Ilaro, in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. This school is in critical condition. Most of the classrooms are currently not being utilized due to dilapidation and lack of maintenance. Because of this, the teachers have merged students from different class levels to learn in the same classrooms. Parts of the building have collapsed, making it too dangerous to use. Most of the roofs are broken without ceilings, and the windows and doors are either all broken or have never been fixed. In partnership with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) this project will create a better learning and teaching environment for both the children and teachers attending Anser-Ud-Deen Primary School.
