Camp Glow (Girls Leading Our World) II
Year: 2008
Country: Dominican Republic
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Launch:
There were a total of 55 Dominican female youth participating in the camp. The young girls gained confidence in themselves as unique individuals through doing artistic project. They realized they have a lot of power and talent to create on their own. They gained independence by doing things on their own outside their communities. The following photo is of four female Dominican Youth who live in the Community of El Batey in rural Dominican Republic. They were lucky to receive a chance to attend camp GLOW. The youngest one, Melissa, had never been out of the community before, without her parents and this was only her 2nd or 3rd time leaving the community. These camps give the girls a chance to be exposed to other female youth from around the country. It is an excellent opportunity for them to be friendly and learn from their peers. It was nothing but exciting and adventurous for each and every girl. It is an excellent camp. Each year the camp reaches on average 50 Dominican girls. With increased funding we hope to be able to expand the size of the camp and offer it at more than one time during the each. The second photo is of the entire group of girls this year in July of 2008.
