"The vast majority of the children in and around the area of San Vito never participated in any form of organized recreation - a small number were members of the regional school sports teams, but many had no access to regular forms of recreation. With a $500 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2011, Camp LEAD gave participating youth a space and an opportunity to participate in a wide range of recreational activities. The campers spent hours playing various sports, including soccer, volleyball, bocce ball, and frisbee, they played cards, listened to traditional live music, dance, watched movies, and painted two beautiful murals at the hosting school. The adults who collaborated as group leaders also benefited, as they participated in many of the recreational activities with the kids. Many of the adults commented afterwards that the camp had been such a positive experience not only for their children but for them as well.Explore other Projects
