Community Cooking and Environmental Education in Ojos de Agua

Year: 2015
Country: El Salvador
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Economic Opportunity
Project Investment: $2,446.75

Project Launch:

This project will renovate a communal kitchen in Ojos de Agua, where various women’s groups and youth groups hold bake sales to raise money for local development projects. Although the kitchen is used often, its supplies are inadequate and the room is poorly ventilated, resulting in regular smoke inhalation and adverse effects on respiratory health. Additionally, the stoves are not well insulated, causing heat to escape and requiring an unnecessary amount of firewood. This project will provide the kitchen with two new eco-friendly stoves, helping to reduce indoor air pollution and deforestation locally, and improve the capacity of community members to raise funds for local development.

Project Update

Construction of the space is underway! Once completed, the community will have a brand new kitchen where women can cook and hold bi-weekly bake sales to generate funds to reinvest into community development projects.
