Construction of a Community Based Childcare Centre in Patterson Village
Project Launch: 9-14-23
Through the project, Patterson Village nursery School Committee will use a $8,755.10 grant to construct two roomed classroom blocks in Patterson Village, Neno Malawi. Currently, preschool students learn in the tent. Building the Community Based Childcare Centre would result in reallocating students from the tent into a well-built fixed structure. 480 children will benefit from using this center. In addition to that, it is expected to help improve the students' class participation, performance , and enrollment into primary school.
Project Update: 10-24-23
The construction of a two roomed Community Based Care Center (CBCC) at Patterson Village, Traditional Authority Simon in Neno District has progressed to a roofing stage. The 60% of the funds that was received was used to procure construction materials like cement, windors, doors, quarry, iron sheets, timber, nails, and some wires that have been used in the initial stage of the project to a roofing stage. Once completed, the classroom block will provide conducive learning space for close to 480 children in the community in different shifts.
Final Report: 12-31-24
The Patterson Village Nursery School Management Committee, in partnership with Mudzi Connect, has successfully implemented a project to construct a two-room Community-Based Child Care Centre (CBCC) in the area. This new facility now provides a safe and nurturing environment for the community's children, offering early childhood education and care to 114 children below five years old. The two classrooms are designed to separate newly enrolled children, who are just starting their academic journey, from those who are more advanced and are ready to transition into primary school. This separation allows for more tailored lessons based on the students' knowledge and skill levels, easing the burden on caregivers. Beyond its educational role, the classrooms have also become valuable spaces for community meetings. Grace Mwenyekile, 34, a caregiver, expressed her joy: "I am thrilled to see one of my wishes come true with the construction of this CBCC. We faced significant challenges in providing a stable learning environment for our children, as our classes were often disrupted by rain and our temporary shelter was blown away. I am deeply grateful to Mudzi Connect for their support in helping us build this permanent structure for our children"
